Joan Didion’s famous packing list included 2 skirts, 2 leotards, and bourbon for the hotel room. It’s not always that easy though. We can’t help but feel like the worst part about traveling is packing. No matter how much time we take to thoughtfully plan, it feels like once we’re there we’ve packed completely wrong. Our fearless leader Susan, among other talents, is an unnaturally good packer. She’s able to put together a thoughtful collection of outfits and looks for every occasion that miraculously fits in a carry-on.
What’s her secret? Sticking to a color story. Right now, with spring in full bloom and neutrals all over our mood board, a black & white palette seemed the most fresh and versatile. With a couple t-shirts, one suit, a pair of jeans, a skirt, a dress, and a sweater, Susan’s ready for anything. It’s not Joan Didion, but it might be even better. And because it’s not just about the clothes you take, but how you take them, she included her favorite travel suitcases and accessories to make packing easier.
Look 1 – She Means Business
This & Other Stories suit is perfect for business meetings and generally being a boss. Finished with a scarf (which we’re so into right now) and black pumps. And finally, a textured woven tote in brown that adds a little bit more interest than the usual black bag.
Look 2 – Blazers Are In Right Now
The blazer from Look 1 adds polish to jeans and t-shirt, while a fun clutch injects some personality. Sneakers are key for a more casual option, but the outfit works just as well swapped out with heels.
Look 3 – High Drama
We’ve been writing about motorcycle jackets a lot lately, so you shouldn’t be surprised to see it pop up here. This high drama look is extremely glamorous, but the jacket and sneakers keep it away from black tie territory. Loving the idea that a satin skirt can take you from day to night.
Look 4 – Monochromatic with a Twist
Black pants, black tank, white duster. And the best part? Birkenstocks. Monochromatic looks are really in this season. And the duster (courtesy of our friend Lisa of Xander) adds a blast of breezy white chic.
Look 5 – Easy Breezy Beautiful
This dress can be formal or casual, but no matter what you’ll look great. And the best part about dresses? They’re easy. Just throw it on and slip into your ‘Stocks.
Look 6 – Queen of Airport Chic
Swap out the duster in Look 4 for the motorcycle jacket, slip on the sneakers and get ready to glide through the airport like the queen of style you are.
