The quilted coat is my favorite outerwear trend this season. It’s totally versatile, and you don’t have to be too precious about it. Depending on which silhouette you’re more into, it can feel like a weekend away at an English cottage or a full-on high fashion moment. It’s also a great transitional moment as we enjoy fall before the real cold settles in. Whether you go for long or short, army green or navy, there’s a quilted coat for you.
It all started when I saw this long black Toteme coat. It’s the perfect transitional coat for right now over a t-shirt, and later I can throw it over a giant chunky sweater too. There’s something about the shape of it that reminds me of 1950s American fashion. If you don’t want to rack out on a coat right now, that’s fine! This olive green Anthropologie coat is an easy way to get the look for less. Veronica Beard’s version is more of a mid-length, but it’s still super versatile.
When it comes to classic American brands, of course they have leisurewear covered. Don’t overthink it: L.L. Bean’s waxed country jacket is a super flattering version with a bit more of a waist silhouette. J.Crew has done a lot with the material, whether you want a more classic olive green option, a bright white puffer with a shawl detail, or a cocoon-esque puffer in navy.
Live out your English weekend fantasy in a short Barbour coat that can even make running errands feel festive. It comes in olive or navy, and I love the contrasting collar on both. The low-key style also means it’s easy to get away with a more major color, like this floor-length mustard coat from ASOS, this lavender & Other Stories coat, or this rose-colored option from Anthropologie.
