While it’s been years since I’ve graduated, this time of year always reminds me of back to school. Now, instead of stocking up on fresh notebooks and sharp pencils, I always treat myself to a new pair of stylish readers. From cool-girl aviators from CADDIS to bookish cat-eyes, snag yourself a new set of frames to help you tackle whatever work is waiting for you.
I love CADDIS and their fashion-y but still classic frames. Their MIKLOS frames are oversized and square, and come in black, creamy beige acetate, or an ocean-y blue and white pair. If you’re looking for something unique, you can’t go wrong with their QUANT 64 frames which, with their big oval lenses, look like something Iris Apfel would wear. The rose-pink-and-gold aviator MABUHAY CADDIS frames are a colorful, femme update to the aviator shape.
But there are other companies making fun, stylish glasses you can stock up on. Ryan Simkhai is a favorite, and they’re on Amazon! These navy-and-dark-tortoise frames are a perfect pop of color mixing. The Lucy frames are slightly cat-eyed, and are undeniably chic in a bone tortoise – like something you’d see on the lead of a Nancy Meyers movie. These chunky Stella readers remind me of a deeply burled, beautiful wood.
IZIPIZI’s slight, subtle A Round readers are intellectual and retro, especially in a bookish tortoiseshell that reminds me of Atticus Finch. In a bright cobalt blue, they feel fresh and fashion-forward.
Reading glasses are also a great opportunity to go outside your comfort zone, stylistically speaking. These oversized, square reading glasses from Anthropologie feel downright Gucci-esque, thanks to it’s 70s influences. Aviator glasses in a deep tortoise bring humor and irreverence. A retro black pair of cat eye glasses will remind you of librarians and the undeniable pleasure of a good book.
