Every winter when it gets cold, there are the lucky few who fly down South to finish out their winters in balmy weather and on beaches. This resort edit is for you. When the rest of us are still layering up in sweaters and coats, you’re peeling layers off to hang out by the beach. You need some breezy coverups, easy dresses to throw on, and maybe even a new swimsuit.
Let’s get this out of the way: every body is a beach body. The key to looking great in a swimsuit is feeling great in a swimsuit, so you have to get one you love. For me, these are some current favorites: a high-necked white cable-knit suit from Tommy Bahama, a belted blue-and-white shell print suit from Kate Spade, and a lace-up one piece from BLEU by Rod Beattie. A lace crochet cover-up is my go-to, like this La Blancha tunic or this longer eyelet Isabella swim coverup dress.
You’ll need a straw bag for tossing everything into, which doesn’t have to break the bank. I love Jenni Kayne’s striped, tan-and-caramel version which I think works just as well in the city when you’re back from the good life. AQUA’s slouchy straw tote is a little bit beachier, as is Poolside’s equally compelling but a little more structured Essaouira Tote.
A fun pair of sunglasses can make even the most basic outfit feel intentional and interesting, like these metal, geometric Celine glasses. In fact, Celine is taking classic shapes and making them feel undeniably fresh. Their Triomphe glasses are a modern take on Jackie O’s iconic bug-eye shape
And of course my go-to affordable sandal: the Sam Edelman Bay Cutout slide. Get the Hermes look at an absolute fraction of the price. Tory Burch’s pavé Miller sandal in a flashy gold is a great way to show off your tan starting at the beach and taking you all the way to dinner.
