A few years ago, something funny happened: fleece became high fashion. The outdoorsy, practical fabric got a modern makeover with fresh silhouettes, bright color palettes, and even interesting prints. The sherpa trend isn’t going anywhere, and with fall breezing in we could use a new fleece to throw on and go. From Sandy Liang’s candy-colored pieces to Patagonia’s reliable classics, we’re loving this cozy and comfy trend.
I’ve had coats on the brain lately, because I haven’t bought a new one in a few years. I identified what I need, and it turns out it’s a shorter statement jacket – like a sherpa! Tory Burch makes two versions with elevated, beautiful color palettes like this navy-and-pink Colorblock Jacket and this tan-and-cream coat that mixes textures with its quilted and fleece fabrics.
Scotch and Soda’s reversible teddy jacket gives you two jackets in one, and I love the cream-and-olive green colors as well as the cuddly buttons and front pockets. For a similar look to Bella Hadid in the header image, SAM’s Boulder Zip jacket gives you creamy white fleece and brown leather details, including a collar that feels like a vintage leather jacket. The BA&SH Eva Coat is another statement piece, combining elements from bomber jackets for a fancy-feeling fleece jacket.
Another way I love wearing fleece is in a more casual half-zip silhouette. You can wear them on their own as jackets now, or layer underneath bigger coats later when it really gets cold. Vineyard Vines is a classic for a reason, and H&M’s sporty sweatshirt will crank up the style on any errands run. Outdoor Voices’s fleece hoodie in a pretty lavender adds a pop of color to a winter day, and this Tach Ornelia sweater is a maximalist dream. And of course, you can’t go wrong with a Sandy Liang piece, like this gray jacket with fun flowers all down the sleeve.
