Shirt dresses are the kind of piece that every stylish woman has stashed in her closet. I love how ladylike and elegant they are, but mostly I love how easy it is to wear them. It’s an instantly polished outfit with feminine charm. All you have to do is pick out your shoes and bag and you’ll be ready for whatever the day is going to throw at you.
COS is one of my go-to’s for shirting in general, so it makes sense that they have fantastic shirt dresses too. Their belted midi shirt has wide cuffs and colors, and the sky blue color is a fun departure from the expected white. It comes in a blue and white stripe, too! Banana Republic’s shirt dress has more of an A-line silhouette for a slightly more femme take, and the all-khaki version has a utilitarian, Out of Africa vibe.
During the hot summer months, whether you have a European vacation lined up or just need to brave it out at home, I’m leaning on linen. Quince, one of my new favorite brands, has a super affordable and polished option at $49.90. Anthropologie’s white linen shirt dress has a softer take on the silhouette, thanks to the puffy sleeves. COS’s linen dress is more on the conservative side, but it’s still flattering thanks to the matching linen belt. I love it in navy or a bright sky blue! This Lisa Marie Fernandez dress might be my favorite linen dress thanks to the white and butter yellow windowpane print.
But a shirt dress isn’t just for throwing on and going. It can step up and make a statement, too! A.L.C’s pleated shirt dress is a stand out for me, and delivers on multiple levels. The pleated skirt, A-line silhouette, and utilitarian details will keep it relevant for years to come. Anthropologie’s printed shirt dress feels like wearable art, Tahari’s baroque print is very glamorous, and Boden’s batik-y bohemian option is beach ready.
