Shirtdresses are one of those items every woman should have in her closet. They can be professional, or casual. You can dress it up, or down. Wear it with sneakers or heels. The best part? They’re cool enough to wear in the summer, and layer-able in the chilly months.I tend to wear mine three different ways: unbelted, belted, and unbuttoned over jeans and a t-shirt.
One thing I’ve realized about how I want to dress back out in the world again? More color! This Tory Burch dress in a California poppy color looks absolutely delicious, and I would wear it out for a long lunch or a al fresco dinner party. I also love this light brown shade that I’m dying to wear when I have a little more of a tan going on. And of course J.Crew has a beautifully versatile shirtdress in a light blue shade that is perfect for spring. If you want to go full-length, this belted Staud dress in blue has all the retro appeal with a totally modern spin.
I’m also very into patterns lately. I mean, what’s not to love about this sweet orange and white Anthropologie gingham shirtdress with a fun ruffle? The fit and flare shape of this Boden dress in a super-fun pink and blue organic paisley pattern has happy hour written all over it. This stripe-and-chevron pattern is minimalist, graphic, and cool.
As much as I love a pop of color, I’m never going to be able to shake my neutral roots. You can never go wrong with an all-white shirtdress, like this pleated one from Anthropologie. I love the structured, oversized shape of this H&M shirtdress. If you feel like spending a little more money on a higher-quality piece for this summer, this Equipment linen dress will never go out of style. Also, I love white eyelet, and this short-sleeved dress is especially good.
