The slip dress is slinky, sexy, and comfortable – which is kind of the trifecta for me right now. In a summer that’s been full of dresses, I find myself reaching for my slip dresses more often than not. You can dress them up for date night, or dress them down for running errands. They’re totally classic, and will even be easy to wear with a t-shirt underneath or by throwing a sweater on when it comes to transitional dressing.
There are tons of different styles to rock, from more casual colorful options to the slinky, sexy kind I mentioned. Let’s start with the slinkier kind, because it’s what I’m rocking in the header image. Vince has a version in navy or black that is so comfortable and chic. Madewell’s slightly shorter version has a side slit for a more flattering fit. COS’s version is a lot less slinky, but still super chic. Cuyana, a brand that prides itself on making comfortable but stylish clothes, has a silk slip dress that comes in black or a beautiful rust color.
You can even go for something on the wild side, like this leopard print one from Anthropologie. I love this printed dress from Intermix with an added flounce at the hem, if you’re looking for something with a little bit of drama. Banana Republic’s square neck slip comes in a beautiful marbled print with shades of gray, white, and green. The graphic blue-on-blue stripes and eyelet mixture on this Roller Rabbit dress make it a total showstopper, as does the version with shades of red, white, and blue.
The dress can also work as the perfect ‘throw it on’ dress – like this simple but still put-together black Z Supply dress with a halter neckline, this breezy white option at Bloomingdale’s, or this Jenni Kayne casual dress in a micro-leopard print.
