Shorts are just a fact about warm weather dressing, but sometimes it can be hard to make them feel fashionable. I’m not reaching for short shorts these days, but instead, I’m relying on precise tailoring, fun colors, and interesting prints to give my shorts a little bit of extra oomph. Read on for more of our favorite stylish shorts.
Luckily, longer shorts are having a bit of a Fashion Moment. Bermuda shorts are getting a modern update with slightly oversized, flouncy versions like these Farm Rio cream linen shorts are breezy and breathable, plus they come with a beautiful belt for a polished look. J.Crew’s pleated chino version in navy gives a distinctly nautical vibe, but they’re just as good in white too!
Don’t be afraid when I tell you this, but Eileen Fisher’s drawstring waist linen short is really, really good. I also love J.Crew’s high-waisted suit short, which is easy to style like your favorite trousers. Just slip on a matching coral blazer and your favorite espadrille for a statement summer look if you’re sick of your go-to dresses.
Just because you’ve given up Daisy Dukes doesn’t mean you have to give up denim! I like Gap’s longer pair in a dark indigo wash, which makes them feel a little more grown-up. Banana Republic’s bringing back archive designs, like this Explorer short. I love the double-belted waistband!
Maybe you’re feeling a little more colorful. There are plenty of prints to go around! Summer is the season of madras, and you can’t go wrong with a perfectly weathered L.L Bean pair in beachy blues and greens. Farm Rio’s Macaw shorts are tropical and fun, like all of their clothes, and perfectly suited to your favorite happy hour cocktail. Nothing says summer like linen, and Talbot’s washed blue linen is perfectly worn in. J.Crew’s Kelly green chinos bring a pop of color to any wardrobe.
Sometimes, you just need a classic Bermuda short in a performance twill cotton. Lauren Ralph Lauren always has your back, with a slim cut short in navy, white, and tan. Of course, you can’t go wrong with Vince’s classic Coin Pocket. They’re as chic in the city as they are on the golf course, and I love them in khaki and a dark coastal blue.
