There’s nothing better than your tried and true essentials. For me, it’s an even bigger relief to have them during summer. Comfort comes first, and so we have the summer essentials that will help you beat the heat and look stylish while doing it, without feeling frumpy because you’re not in a miniskirt. And if you are in a miniskirt, more power to you.
The basis of every good wardrobe? The perfect t-shirt, when it fits exactly the way you want it to, can make any outfit feel more purposeful. I love all of Everlane’s tees. They feel designed but not too designed, and they come in crewnecks and v-necks, in lots of color options.
Don’t forget the white jeans! I know, I know – I’m always talking about them. But I’m not into shorts, and other denim feels too heavy. This is a wonderful straight-legged, slightly cropped pair. J.Crew also has a fun Demi-flare pair.
When I do get sick of my white jeans (or when I spill on them), I turn to an easy pant. I love a jogger, which gives you a little more shape than sweats. Try a tapered sweat in a rich olive hue, or pastel pink. Don’t forget a sweater for when the temp finally drops at night, like this knit baby blue.
A perfect summer dress is flowy and comfortable, but still elegant. This ruffled white maxi-dress, for example. I love the crispness and structure of this white dress. This blue and white striped dress is ladylike without being too girlish.
Birkenstocks have been my quarantine shoe, and this gold pair is definitely chic enough to wear outside of the house, too. If you’re looking for something a little less flashy, then they also come in a summery all-white. If sneakers are more your style, then this cream and white pair from Reebok is perfect.
