When summer comes around, chances are you can find me draped in linen. Whenever I slip into my favorite linen shirt, I feel like the lead in a Nancy Meyers movie. The breezy fabric is effortlessly chic, even when wrinkled, and most importantly it keeps you cool. From dresses to trousers to shirts, there’s a summer linen piece out there for everyone.
There are few things more important to my summer wardrobe than linen pants. When it’s too hot for my white jeans and I don’t feel like wearing shorts, I reach for linen pants again and again. An easy pant in a fun color brings a bit of polish to leisurewear, like these magenta pink pants from H&M or this coral seaside pant from J.Crew.
For a dressier vibe, reach for your favorite pleated pants. Anine Bing’s crisp white pant comes with a matching shirt, You can always rely on Everlane for updated basics, and I love their Way-High drape pant with their wide-legs and high-waist silhouette. It comes in four colors but I’m partial to the light blue and the natural linen colors. J.Crew comes through on the suiting front with a killer pant and double-breasted blazer.
A longer linen dress does double duty in your wardrobe as a swimsuit coverup and an easy throw-on dress. This black long-sleeve maxi dress from J.Crew is perfect for anyone who’s looking for something a little more conservative. COS’s shirtdress longer-but-still-short sleeves and belted silhouette are super flattering, plus it comes in light blue or black.
Last but certainly not least, a linen shirt is a staple for the summer. I still have my uniform, but I swap out my white oxfords for white linen! H&M’s oversized button-down or Everlane’s relaxed shirt are both great options. If you want something a little more fun, go for a bold color like this cobalt blue Mango shirt, a pale pink linen popover from Everlane, or a blue-and-white striped shirt .
