We finally found it: the perfect summer shorts outfit. Shorts that aren’t too short, a crisp white shirt, and a belt that pulls it all together. It seems like the kind of outfit Audrey Hepburn would wear, complete with a headscarf or a really great pair of shades. Finish the outfit off with a classic leather barely-there sandal.
The most important part of this outfit is a pair of shorts that are polished and not-too-short. J.Crew’s pleated capeside short looks the closest to the one in the image, with just enough kick tasty crisp. You can also swap out the chino for something more breathable, like linen. COS’s bermuda shorts have an elastic waist for maximum comfort. This pair of Karen Kane’s with a center pleat are sleek as can be.
White shirts are personal, but there’s definitely one for everyone. Do you prefer a slim-cut shirt that can easily tuck in? J.Crew’s poplin shirt is slim-cut with the perfect amount of stretch. A linen shirt for those unbearably hot days? AYR’s best-selling Deep End shirt is the one for you. Oversize and a little bit slouchy? Mango’s oversized cotton shirt nails slouchy, but not sloppy.
The devil’s in the details here, with an emphasis on accessories that finish off the outfit. Belts have been making a bit of a comeback lately, but even I had not thought to slip one on with a kicky pair of shorts. I love this super skinny Italian black leather belt from J.Crew, COS’s black leather belt is as classic as it gets. This tumbled brown leather belt from Banana Republic is a bit more rustic, perfect for a more outdoorsy spin on the look.
A glint of gold is always a good thing, and I love this pair of small chunky gold hoops from COS. They look like the world’s most delicious donuts. A fabulous pair of oversize cat-eye glasses is the final touch, masterfully mixing neutrals.
