Sometimes, going between the hot weather outside and the cold air of the A/C inside gives me temperature whiplash. The best way to beat it? Never leave the house without a cotton sweater you can throw on – and take it off just as easily when you go back outside. So below, our few of our favorite summer sweaters we never leave the house without.
Cardigans are great layering pieces and often don’t feel quite as heavy as a full crewneck. Sometimes they even feel downright beachy. In the header image, I’m wearing this thicker, cozy cardigan from Brochu Walker. It’s more of an investment piece, but you don’t have to spend a ton for a similar look. Consider this super chunky, white cotton Quince sweater or this woven stone colored cardigan from Banana Republic. For a daintier look, J.Crew’s ultra fine cardigan is paper thin and fitted.
I’m a sucker for a collared sweater. It’s just one extra detail, but it can really turn any sweater into the sweet spot of preppy/sporty/just fancy enough. La Ligne’s Ben polo is a borrowed from the boys must-have, with a relaxed fit and a silk/cashmere blend that keeps it light. For a more coastal take, Quince’s navy-and-white striped number would be right at home on any sailboat. Or just your backyard deck.
We’re not trying to reinvent the wheel here, either. Sometimes the classics work! I was obsessed with J.Crew’s Rollneck back in the day, and I’m just as happy about it now that it’s returned. The striped version is really good too! A slightly oversized cotton sweater will always be cool, like this Quince one with a ribbed neck and sleeve.
When in doubt, you can always count on Ralph Lauren’s trusty cable knit crewneck. You might even have one in the back of your closet right now that you forgot about! If you don’t, snag this white one for yourself.
