The solstice has come and gone, which means summer is officially here. But for all the weekends spent at al fresco dinner parties and blazing hot afternoons lounging by the pool, there’s also weekday mornings spent at the computer in full-blast air conditioning. Which means, even though it’s 90 degrees outside, you’re going to need a cute sweatshirt! Personally I’m loving a more colorful, graphic take on the summer sweatshirt to keep it feeling fun.
My love of summer sweatshirts started with Clare V. She just makes such playful pieces, it’s impossible not to smile when you’re looking at them. In the header image, the OUI cut-out sweatshirt is featured in a rich navy, white, and red but it also comes in pink! It’s soft, lightweight, and perfect for layering. For the French fry fanatic, I love this FRITES sweatshirt in a cheery yolk yellow. Are you a homebody? Wear it proudly with this CHEZ MOI top, perfect for Netflix marathons and last-minute dinner parties alike.
When in doubt, stick with the classics. J.Crew made a name for itself in the 90s with colorful, sportswear-inspired clothes, and this Magic Rinse sweatshirt is exactly what the name says – magic. Kule, a company created by former Vogue staffers, captures the same American nostalgic appeal. Preppy, but with a modern twist. I love this grey sweatshirt dotted with bright cartoon flowers, which is a grown-up take on flower power. The allover heart print top is cute without ever feeling childish. My favorite is this cheeky Take Out hoodie, with the familiar smiley face and ‘Thank You Have A Nice Day’ emblazoned across the chest. It comes in a classic crewneck, too!
Maybe you want something colorful, but a little more minimal? Frank & Eileen’s Capelette triple fleece comes in a bright snowy white. COS’s relaxed-fit sweatshirt shines in a pretty periwinkle shade. Mango’s oversized cotton sweatshirt in a pastel pink will do just fine.
