Not so long ago, cashmere was a capital-L Luxury. But over the past few years, there have been plenty of brands that have broken into the industry with affordable cashmere that still feels heavenly soft. Of course you have the heavy old-school hitters like J.Crew that you can always rely on, but newer direct-to-consumer brands like Everlane and Naadam have made it easier than ever to stock up for the winter.
Let’s start with J.Crew, because icons get to go first. Not only does their long-sleeve everyday cashmere sweater come in a rainbow of 26 different colors, but it also comes in under $100. Plus, being J.Crew there’s an option to monogram your sweater, which we can never pass up. Of course they have the standard deep fall color range, but we’re especially drawn to their bright, saturated hues like bright rose, neon berry, and sapphire.
Naadam is a brand founded entirely on the idea of affordable cashmere. Founder Matt Scanlan is disrupting the cashmere industry by buying directly from the Mongolian herders, cutting out inefficient middle men who hike up the prices. Their collection has a wide range of tops, bottoms, and loungewear for men and women but their claim to fame is the $75 unisex sweater. It comes in 16 different colors, and we love the darker shades like olive and smoke.
It’s no surprise that Everlane makes amazing sweaters. Known for their elevated basics, the brand knows that a classic can still be cool. This year, they even introduced ReNew Cashmere, which cuts the carbon footprint of the piece in half without sacrificing any style at all. Their trendier sweaters include a varsity-inspired cardigan and cashmere-rib boatneck, but we also love their take on a basic v-neck sweater.
