Do you remember the famous cerulean blue speech from Devil Wears Prada? This year, it would be about Prada sending barn jackets down the runway. Since they did, every brand has churned out their own version – here are our favorites.
Here is the infamous Prada jacket. I should warn you, there will be some sticker shock. At 3,500 I couldn’t justify it – but no judgment if you’re feeling the urge! The good thing about this silhouette? Prada didn’t invent it. You can get almost the exact same look, for a fraction of the price. The look this season is oversized, shrugged in. I think Mango’s got the nicest looking version, either in this camel coat with toggles or this dark brown waxed jacket.
The waxed element of the jacket shouldn’t be overlooked. I like the shine as much as the next person, but there is actual value in it! These jackets are seriously durable. The farm fabric is easily elevated with a more fashionable silhouette, like this cropped version from Nordstrom, this army green rag & bone option, or this classic Cole Haan.
I mentioned that Prada didn’t invent the barn jacket. Admittedly, I don’t know who did. But I know that the English have certainly perfected a version of it. And that version is quilted. There are two big British heritage brands you can rely on. If you’re going big, you can’t get any better than Burberry. On the more affordable side, there’s Barbour – complete with the contrast corduroy collar.
I’ve also been loving the look of a chore or barn jacket in denim. Everlane’s Ranch Jacket or AG’s Lucien Jacket both have a great dark wash, and would pair easily with any of your jeans.
