In the winter, we have the LBD (little black dress). In summer, it’s all about the LWD (little white dresses). A little white dress can be just as classic and sexy as it’s black counterpart – especially if you have a killer tan to wear it with. It’s a lighter and brighter alternative that feels seasonally appropriate, every bit as easy to wear, and maybe even a little bit more fun and flirty. I suggest accessorizing with your favorite espadrilles and a glass of cold rosé.
This year, there’s one distinct trend when it comes to dresses: smocking! Usually around the bust or the waist, it can help create a flattering hourglass silhouette. And, most importantly, a swing-y skirt that doesn’t stick to your body. My favorite version is this scoop-neck Tory Burch with a slightly puffed sleeve, but you can get this Doen dress at almost half the price! Hill House Home’s Ophelia dress comes in a romantic white eyelet, which is basically a dressier version of their cult favorite Nap dress. The Hill House Home Cosima dress has a more conservative bodice with a boatneck silhouette.
Honestly I don’t like wearing hemlines shorter than my knee, but if that’s your gig you can’t go wrong in this eyelet swing dress from Splendid. I’m more likely to go for this midi dress from AQUA, complete with a few ruffles for added drama.
Do you have FOSD? It’s the fear of sleeveless dresses! If you’re feeling self-conscious about your arms, there are summer dresses with long sleeves! Mersea’s linen dress ties around the waist with blousy sleeves. This off-the-shoulder COS dress shows off your summer tan and your collarbones! You can even button all the way up with this creaseless linen shirtdress from ME + EM.
