As I’ve gotten older, I’ve gravitated towards comfort that’s still chic. I used to spend time and money lusting over sky-high stiletto sandals. Blame it on Carrie Bradshaw. These days, it’s less going out heels and more at-home anyways. Combined with the back to school feeling of fall, a new pair of loafers is high on my fall wardrobe list.
The fashion world has fallen back in love with loafers, too, ever since Gucci’s resurgence several years ago. As a result, there are more high-statement and trendy loafers than ever. This year, I’m loving an unexpected color. M.Gemi’s classic loafer is just as wonderful in this raspberry suede, or this vibrant royal blue suede. How about this dark green-y blue crocodile loafer from J.Crew?
If you’re looking for something more classic, then you can’t go wrong with Gucci. Madewell’s black leather and suede pair is an updated take on the classic shape. But on the slightly more subversive side, this chocolate brown suede from Frame has gold hardware and a cool strap detail. You know I think leopard print is a neutral, and these leopard-print hide loafers really do go with everything. This pair in a darker brown leopard print do, too, if you want something a little more subtle.
One big trend this year is the lug-sole, which is a little bit punk and a lot of 90’s. This Dolce Vita pair with black crocodile is the perfect balance of polish and cool girl appeal. Mango’s loafers are still classic, but give you just enough of a heel. This Gucci pair is a platform but still feels timeless, and would be so fun with a pair of straight leg-denim and a chunky turtleneck.
