The half-zip sweater was one of the only true trends that broke out during the Quarantine Year. It’s not hard to see why! First and foremost, it’s comfortable. But the zip adds a certain sporty, nostalgic effortlessness to a sweater. It’s a small way to elevate your go-to jeans and sweater uniform, and you can dress it up or down with ease. Shop our favorite pieces of the trend below.
For many people, La Ligne’s Bastien sweater kicked the whole trend off. It feels preppy with a French twist thanks to the bateau-style stripes, and the navy and white combo goes with everything. It comes in black and tan stripes too, as well as solid black and tan if you’re looking for something a little more neutral.
Never one to miss out on a trend, Everlane’s felted marino half-zip is ribbed, injecting some much needed texture into everyone’s wardrobe. Madewell adds embroidered flowers to their sweater, and AYR’s version is ribbed and detailed in a sleeker fit.
Banana Republic’s purposely oversized sweater is a take on one of my favorite color palettes this season: black and tan. The black exterior is classic and flattering, and the flash of tan when you unzip the top portion is deeply chic. It also comes in a festive, cheery red shade that’s perfect for upcoming holidays.
Alex Mill’s version trends a little more casual, thanks to its cozy fabric. But the funnel neck looks particularly elegant and ups the design credibility of the piece, whether you wear it up or down. I love the creamy oatmilk shade, and the perfectly worn-in military green shade is perfect for fall frolicking too.
Naadam’s cable-knit cashmere is a splurge-worthy statement piece, whether you go for the heather gray or deep, mossy green option . J.Crew’s cashmere white-and-blue stripe proves you can definitely wear white after labor day.
