It seems like jeans shopping is a universally horrible experience for every woman I’ve ever talked to. The flourescent lighting in the department store dressing room, the inconsistent jean sizing from brand to brand. Which is why I can say that while there’s always a place in my heart for IRL retail shopping, I’m very thankful that I can try jeans on in the comfort of my own home.
Especially because jeans are basically all I’m wearing right now. Maybe it’s the California of it all, but it’s hard to beat a perfect pair of jeans and whatever Birkenstocks or sneakers I’m obsessed with at the moment. Here are the pairs and silhouettes I keep reaching for, again and again.
First, you can’t talk about jeans without talking about Levi’s. One of the most iconic brands in the world is still consistently turning out relevant, comfortable denim at an affordable price point. Plus, the way they do their sizing means you’re getting pretty much the best fit you can without going to a tailor. We love their Wedgie style for a pair you can easily dress up or down, and, name aside, they make your butt look great. Vintage-inspired denim isn’t going anywhere, and if you don’t want to go straight to the source, might I suggest this light-wash pair of Citizens, which is perfect for someone looking for a skinnier leg. It’s hard to go wrong with Madewell’s classic straight-leg pair, too.
The other style I’m really into? A darker wash jean with a bootcut silhouette. Or maybe it’s better to call them bootcut light. They’re high-waisted, in a flattering deep indigo, and there’s a slight flare to the leg. Not the full 70’s high-drama look, more like Jennifer Aniston running errands in the early 2000s. We love this Madewell pair, these ones from J.Crew, and this Citizens of Humanity pair.
