There’s nothing I love more than a white shirt. To me, it’s the chicest possible piece of clothing. You can wear it any time of the year and with practically anything in your closet, which is why I find myself reaching for them a lot during transitional times. Like all great style, the white button down is personal – which is why we put together a selection of best into one white shirt edit. So you can find yours.
My go-to button down these days is AYR’s best-selling The Deep End. It’s slightly oversized, but still structured. It’s long enough to tuck in, too. Plus it’s 100% cotton and thick enough for chillier days. It’s also the shirt I’m wearing in the header! If you love an oversized shirt too, then there are a couple other fantastic options. Of course Banana Republic’s oversized tunic is a dream. Mango’s pocketed version won’t break the bank and I love the cuff details.
Sometimes, you need something that is cut a little closer to the body. Especially if you’re wearing extra-wide leg bottoms or need to tuck the shirt in easily. Outfits are all about balance and proportions, so no matter how much you love your oversized shirts it’s good to have one slim-cut in the closet. Mango’s cotton-blend shirt is perfect. Frank + Eileen’s Barry shirt isn’t exactly slim-cut, but it is exceptionally tailored.
Maybe you have as many basic white shirts as you could need, and you just want something a little more special. Banana Republic’s poplin Lish top might be the one for you. I love the subtle puff of the sleeves and the croissant-y effect. Plus, the waist is darted for a super flattering effect. Alex Mill’s Easy Ruffle shirt has a subtle ruffle across the collar for a vintage-y effect which continues along the sleeve. It’s very romantic.
