This summer, we’re bringing back one of my favorite preppy staples: the polo! You can wear them on the golf course, but they look just as cool with slouchy jeans and sneakers. Or a midi skirt and sandals. Or Bermuda shorts and wedges. That’s a lot of ways to wear. Shop our favorites below.
Maybe it’s because I’ve been playing a lot of golf, but I’m wearing the classic Ralph Lauren polo in a sporty cotton a lot. There are so many colors and fits to choose from, but I’m partial to the classic cut in a crisp white. Tuckernuck has their own borrowed from the boys polo, a slouchier style that’s still cut a little bit shorter to wear without tucking in. What about an under $50 option from Zara in a punchy Bottega green color?
The silhouette is really easy to dress up too, in slinky knits and texture like cotton and crochet. I love this Free People eyelet shirt, which is undeniably femme and fun but still structured. Of course Tory Burch, the queen of the Upper East Side, has a polo that stands out from teh rest in a great mixture of patterns and colors. Leset’s barely-there lightweight knit polo is sexy enough for your next date night, perhaps paired with an equally flirty skirt. Vince’s ribbed version skews a little more 70s with a deep v and elbow-length sleeve that should be tucked into your favorite high-waisted trousers and cinched with a sexy belt.
I really do love a summer sweater that keeps you warm for any unexpected blast of air conditioning, or a particularly chilly night by the water. J.Crew’s cashmere polo is super lightweight and deeply luxurious, especially in a rich emerald shade or a pretty sky blue.
