It seems like everyone in the fashion industry is talking about sustainability practices, whether it’s what that even means or how we can adopt them in our everyday lives. For us at In The Groove, it was one of our New Year’s Resolutions to try and shop vintage or consignment. It’s happier for the environment, but it’s also happier for your wallet.
After talking to Julie Wainwright, the founder of the Real Real, we did a deep dive into their website to find the best of the best. Because they have such an insanely big inventory, here are a couple tips. First of all, go when you have something specific in mind, like a long coat or a new tote bag. Second, make sure you start with designers you are interested in. That way, you’ll be able to shop with a sharper focus and not waste your time endlessly browsing.
What have we found lately? We always say The Real Real is a great place to go for classics, like Hermès scarves. This olive green and gold scarf with the Etiers motif is right on the nose for color trends right now. If you’re looking ahead to spring, this vibrant pink and turquoise scarf with a link motif would be perfect for an Adult Spring Break.
You could spend hours browsing classic purses, whether that means modern classics like this season Gucci or something a little bit more nostalgic, like this Bottega Veneta woven hobo. There are also plenty of fun, trendy options like this Prada raffia bag that is perfect for the warmer months.
And finally, it’s a great place to look for shoes, particularly if you have a larger or smaller size than the norm. This pair of mule wedges from The Row is timeless and chic, and at $495 they’re also way more affordable than anything you could buy currently.
