There’s a not a lot of opportunity to wear shoes at the moment. And so (aside from a few comfortable pairs of sneakers), my wedges and leather sandals and loafers are sitting tucked away in my closet. The new star of my shoe game? Slippers.
Birdies are maybe the most well-known brand. Their beautiful and colorful shoes ride a fine line between mules and slippers. In fact, all of their shoes comes equipped with a no-slip rubber sole exactly because you can wear them inside or outside. The shoes are unapologetically glam, like these black, gold, and burgundy floral jacquard pair.
Let’s talk about the cozy collective. The ones you would never dream about wearing outside but love slipping into every day when you get out of bed. These UGG Flufette slippers and the similar Birche slipper are as cozy as they come, decked out in fluffy shearling guaranteed to keep your toes warm. Their Dakota slipper skews a little more polished, pretending to be a real loafer.
Maybe you’re looking for something a little more practical. Here’s where the Birkenstock style-slides come in. Comfortable enough to wear inside, heavy-duty enough to withstand the elements, they are the shoe you’re looking for. And, as an added bones, they’ve currently swung back into style with the style set. I love this snakeskin pair, which I’ll wear all summer long with slouchy jeans and long slip dresses. This sporty, nautical pair in leather and cream from Vince would go with just about anything. This Stella McCartney pair in understated leopard and black netting will be perfect for working at home now and in between workout classes later. The Birkenstock Arizona shearling-lined slipper in a chic navy is unexpected and elegant. Bet you never thought we’d say that about Birkenstocks, huh?
