In LA, the weather is finally starting to cool down. But, like so many other cities, the average fall day can present some dressing challenges. Cool in the morning, hot in the afternoon, cool at night again? Enter the sweater vest: one of my favorite layering pieces this season. It’s easy to add structure to an outfit with something oversized, or scale down big pants with a shrunken vest. You can go for a pop of color and fun with a print, or keep it luxe and neutral.
Lately, I’m loving the loose, slouchy shape of an oversized v-neck sweater vest. It’s easy to style with your favorite t-shirt, button-down, or even by itself if you’re feeling it. COS’s black version is a wardrobe staple in luxe black cashmere with sleek lines, and Evereve’s cream cable-knit knit is cropped for the kind of fit we love to pair with wide-leg trousers. Kule’s Darcy vest is a wool/cashmere blend that’s as timeless as it gets.
The statement sweater vest is easy to work into your usual uniform rotation for an extra special something. I love Anthropologie’s bauble vest with it’s extra large stitching in white, green, and pink. Kule’s retro-inspired checkerboard pattern, this Kerri Rosenthal cashmere heart-print vest,
This Pistola Denim black-and-green vest is a fresh take on the familiar preppy aesthetic and Kule’s The Dakota in cream and black recalls Fair Isle sweater motifs. The sweater vest over a shirt is another classic, but how about removing a pesky layer of fabric and going for one piece that fakes the look? Sioni’s Layered Look sweater is great in black or grey.
Sometimes crewneck sweater vests can feel a little prim and proper. Not so with the acid-green color of this COS sweater, especially in a textural mohair. This black-and-white marled Michael Stars top adds some movement to any outfit.
