Forget about black and navy blue – this fall it’s all about chocolate brown. The darker and richer, the better. There’s something undeniably luxurious about the color, especially in a buttery cashmere or perfectly patinated leather. It’s a little unexpected, and all the way glamorous. It’s especially impactful in a monochromatic look, but even if you just wear a little pop of it, you’ll still look delicious.
I’m gravitating towards full monochromatic brown looks, but I’m starting with sweaters. COS’s cable-knit mock neck sweater is high on my list, as is their classic crewneck Pure Cashmere sweater. J.Crew’s pocket cardigan in milk chocolate is as cute as it is comfy. There are some really great, easy-to-layer base pieces too like this COS long sleeve tee with thumb holes and Banana Republic’s ribbed t-shirt.
Coats and blazers are looking especially fantastic in brown this season, like this deeply fabulous leather brown coat from COS, this Sam Edelman double-breasted cloth coat, or a brown leather motorcycle jacket from Banana Republic that will only look better with age. J.Crew’s Willa blazer in a herringbone fabric add some panache. A brown puffer coat will make you stand out in a sea of black, especially when it’s as pretty as this Theory one.
Brown leather accessories are a particularly good investment, because they’ll always be in style. It’s a massive splurge but this Saint Laurent puffy leather bag is to die for, like a delicious wearable chocolate bar. J.Crew’s brown suede tote bag will schlep any of your stuff in style. A brown suede belt from Banana Republic will finish off any outfit with a cinch. A little lady bag with gold hardware is as chic as it gets.
You finish every outfit with shoes so what better way to finish off this article? The season’s trendiest color meets the season’s trendiest shoe in these J.Crew ballet flats.
