A fisherman sweater is an underrated statement piece. A little bit nostalgic and totally timeless, the subtle pattern makes any outfit more interesting. In a creamy white color, it brings brightness to dreary winter days but still goes with everything. Shop our favorites now.
When I think of fisherman’s sweaters, I think of the vintage. Julia Roberts’s street style photos, Billy Crystal in When Harry Met Sally. It’s a big, cozy, borrowed from the boys vibe. This Alo Yoga option is a great example. The dropped shoulders leave extra room. It’s perfect for just throwing on and going. I also love the dramatic swoop of the sleeves on this Free People sweater. If you’re looking for an investment piece, Goop’s G.Label always delivers. Their sweater is a little more subtle, and the mock neck is another detail I love.
But I understand if everyone is sick of everything oversized all the time. A more fitted sweater is a great way to make slouchier pants feel more polished. This L.L.Bean sweater is a classic for a reason. I also love that it’s cotton, which makes it a year-round option instead of some of the thicker wool and cashmere options. Alex Mill, the newer brand with all the vintage J.Crew and LL Bean charm, also has a great version.
On the more cropped side, which evens out high-waisted bottoms, this Favorite Daughter sweater is cropped but not too cropped. And, as always, I can count on my beloved Quince to serve up quality knitwear that won’t break the bank. Their merino wool sweater has a more minimal pattern than others, but it comes in at 69.90 – and who can complain about that?
