Your Guide to Necklace Layering

Sometimes, more is more.

Your Guide to Necklace Layering

Sometimes less really is more. But not when it comes to necklaces. Right now, the coolest look in the game is layers of necklaces. Specifically, gold. Bling bling baby. The models walking off fashion’s biggest runways and onto our Instagram feeds are practically weighed down by them all.

It’s also yet another opportunity for personalization. Charms and pendants are trending right now, whether it’s as specific as a monogram or something more general like your Zodiac sign. What kind of chain are you into? Whether herringbone, Cuban, or rope, a sturdy chain with a pattern will ground your neck party.

There are plenty of ways to layer your necklaces. Personally, I wear three gold chains almost every day. A short nameplate necklace, a medium thin gold chain with charms hanging off, and a third chunky chain that’s the longest of them all. By mixing lengths, thickness, and personal touches then the layering looks thoughtful, and not like you fell headfirst into your jewelry box.  Shop our favorite pieces below, then get to layering ’em.

All of our recommendations are curated by Susan & the In The Groove editorial team. In some, but not all cases, we receive a small commission for leading you to what, how and where to buy all this wonderful stuff.
