Corduroy is one of those fabrics I have a distinctly retro memory of – the specific brown color, 70’s sequence high-waisted pants with a boot cut. But corduroy has made a bit of a comeback, and I’m not surprised. It’s more comfortable than denim, cozier than linen when the temperature starts to drop, and not as hot as flannel.
When it comes to pants, I’m loving a wider, slouchy cut because it feels just as comfy as my favorite sweats but seriously ups the style quotient. Uniqlo has a perfect pair to wear with sneakers and a turtleneck. This black pair from Mango would go perfectly with loafers and a button down. If you want something with a more defined flare, this Frame pair delivers. The white straight crop from Everlane will go with whatever silhouette top you have.
It’s not just about pants though! From blazers to jackets to accessories, the fabric is wildly versatile. I’ve been very into shackets lately. They’re the perfect layering piece, and completely fit my style bill. I love this navy blue one because of the perfectly placed pockets. This dusty pink is an unexpected, femme color. This burnt-orange quilted jacket from & Other Stories was meant to be worn in a pumpkin patch.
When it comes to blazers, I’m thinking more boyish than wasp-waisted. Alex Mill’s navy blazer is a great example, and even comes with matching pants. I love this classic caramel colored option, too. J.Crew’s Parke blazer in cream is the right way to do winter whites this holiday. Alex Mill even has a fun jumpsuit in army green.
Finally, because I’ve been wearing a bunch of them lately, try a corduroy hat. A navy baseball hat perhaps, perfect for long walks an admiring the fall foliage? A cream bucket hat for tending to your winter veggies? Either way, you’ll look good.
