The Splurge/Save Edit: Fall Essentials

Because everyone deserves to look good.

The Splurge/Save Edit: Fall Essentials

There are certain things that are always worth spending a little more money on, like an iconic Gucci shoe or a classic quilted Chanel bag. But not everyone wants or can afford to get a new investment piece every season. In today’s story, we pulled some of our favorite investment pieces and the more affordable dupe. Think classic shapes, the leather look, and rich neutrals. Because everyone deserves to look good. Below, we break down our favorite splurge/save categories.

Loafer

As far as loafers go, you can’t get more classic than a black Gucci loafer with the horsebit buckle. I love the slightly retro and unisex shape, which lends itself to a lot of casual wear with your favorite pair of jeans. Their Jordaan shoe is a little bit more femme, if that’s more your style. On the save side of things, Sam Edelman’s Lior loafer is sleek, the Christy loafer is a little chunkier, but both have shiny hardware for added style.

Bag

I love a timeless shoulder or hobo bag, and the simple shape means you don’t have to break the bank to get a good version. Right now, the It Bag is the Jackie 1961 Gucci bag, but I’m partial to Bottega Veneta’s woven leather hobo as well. This black leather Mango baguette bag gets you all the structure of the Jackie, and this oversized cloud clutch from Loeffler Randall gives you the puffy, trendy look of the BV.

Gold Chain

I’ve become obsessed with jewelry lately. The right piece can totally change your outfit. On the other hand, not wearing one of my usual pieces can make me feel completely unbalanced. A nice gold chain goes with everything, and it’s also the rare thing you can actually wear everyday. I love the slinky, liquid-y look of a snake chain on a white t-shirt, and Club Monaco’s chain is every bit as snake-y.

Quilted Jacket

A quilted Burberry jacket looks great whether you’re stomping around the countryside or running out for lunch in the city. But if you’re not ready for that kind of commitment yet, J.Crew’s version will still do the trick.
