Leather is everywhere this season, and not just in our favorite motorcycle jackets. There’s something about a leather piece of clothing that is truly luxurious. It always makes me feel like the best dressed person in the room. This time around, we’re focused on more feminine silhouettes like swinging A-line skirts and power-shouldered blazers updated from the 80s.
These pieces might be on the pricier side, but you should consider these heirlooms. You can wear them for years and even pass them down so your family can wear for years. The best thing about leather? It only looks better and cooler with age. Kind of like us. Now, on to some of my favorites. This chocolate brown Madewell blazer fits right in with the current brown craze, and the Hershey Kiss color definitely softens the look. Frame’s leather blazer is an even darker brown, with a little more padding and pockets for a slightly louder vibe. I would wear with cropped black jeans and a tall boot.
J.Crew’s current collection has leaned all the way in on modern ladylike classics, even combining the lady jacket silhouette with high-quality leather. Similarly, Veronica Beard’s Cooke blazer has a ladies-who-lunch meets modern woman look. And to continue with the elegant retro association, I love this swingy A-line skirt from Banana Republic in a delicious brown. This camel pencil skirt is great, too.
When it comes to leather pants, I like to go wide-leg and super comfortable. J.Crew’s wide-leg collection pant is in lightweight leather so you won’t get swampy down there. The fabric also hangs and swings a little differently. This is the kind of pant you can wear like a sweatpant almost, with just a sweatshirt and your favorite sneakers. Frame has a great selection of recycled leather to help with the price tag, and their best-selling straight-leg Le Jane translates really well to black leather – in a crop or a longer version.
