Today I turn 71.
Wow…71. That’s a number that definitely gets your attention.
On one hand, I feel incredibly grateful to wake up and celebrate another birthday. On the other, I can’t ignore the reality that time feels a little more precious than it used to. It’s a reminder to make the most of whatever comes next.
Sure, there are a few more wrinkles, and yes, things ache a little more than they did ten years ago. But I’ve also learned that getting older has a funny way of helping you focus on what really matters.
The people you love.
The places you still want to explore.
The adventures that are waiting.
The simple joy of an ordinary day.
Every year on my birthday I usually share a wish list of things I’m hoping for. The truth is, this year there really isn’t much I’m coveting…well, maybe a new set of golf clubs. 😊
What I really want are experiences.
I want to learn how to play canasta.
I want to plan a trip to Korea.
I want more afternoons with Bob dreaming up our next adventure. A friend recently told me she had just returned from a cooking school in France with her daughter, and I immediately thought, Now that’s a birthday gift.
The older I get, the more I realize that experiences become our stories, and our stories become our memories. Those are the gifts that stay with us.
So, in the spirit of birthday traditions, I thought instead of sharing what I want, I’d share something I know many of you come here for—the pieces I’m wearing on repeat that are making getting dressed easier.
Here’s to another year of feeling good, looking good, staying curious, and saying “yes” to whatever adventure comes next.
I’m so grateful you’re here with me for the ride.
With love,
Susan
