I don’t know about you, but mentally I’m ready for fall. Unfortunately, the weather has other ideas. This is always the tricky part of the season. I’m tired of dressing for summer, but I’m certainly not putting on a cashmere sweater when it’s 90 degrees outside.
So instead of completely changing what I’m wearing, I’m making a few little shifts that make everything feel more like fall. And the good news? You probably already have many of these things in your closet.
The point is, you don’t need to completely change your wardrobe just because you’re ready for a new season. A few little tweaks can make what you already own feel fresh again—and get you through these next few weeks until the weather finally catches up with us. Here are a few of my favorite tips below:
Change the Color
Soldout.nyc Iconically Soft Perfect Tee, $90

Rich burgundy, chocolate, olive and navy instantly make an outfit feel more like fall—even if the fabric is still lightweight. This is probably the easiest trick of all: keep wearing the silhouettes that work in the heat, but start shifting into a richer fall palette.
Add One Light Layer

I’m not talking about cashmere sweaters or heavy jackets yet. Think a lightweight jacket, vest, cotton cardigan or easy knit that you can throw on without overheating. It’s that third piece that starts to make an outfit feel pulled together—and a little more like fall.
Change Your Shoes

This may be the first thing I do when I’m ready to move on from summer. Swap the sandals for loafers, ballet flats or a closed-toe slingback, and suddenly the exact same outfit looks completely different. You don’t have to change the clothes—sometimes the shoe does all the work.
