Fall is my favorite shopping season. You can be really creative with how you dress, before practicality takes over. The barely-there fabrics of summer float away, and I swap them out for rich textures like suede, leather, and chunky cashmere. Below, what our editor picks for best of the season.
We all know fall is really about three things: boots, knitwear, and jackets. Let’s start with jackets and work our way down. A really great jacket can change your entire wardrobe, because you can wear it everyday, over everything – even sweats! This J.Crew plaid barn jacket feels like the best of two worlds: participating in the barn jacket trend but still standing out with a fun pattern. Leather jackets in fresh silhouettes are really having a moment right now, and this oversized Quince bomber jacket is an absolute steal at $250.
I can be a bit obsessive about sweaters. I want them to be cozy and go with everything, but also special enough to feel specific. Every fall, I look forward to COS’s premium cashmere chunky sweater. They’re a chunky, gorgeous dupe of the Row’s cult favorite Ophelia sweater. This year, I picked one up in a pale pink. Brochu Walker’s enormous Dante shrug slouches around your body into an artistic, interesting silhouette.
Finally, we’ve arrived at the feet. Like everybody else, I’m obsessed with chocolate brown right now. I’ve swapped out my usual black ankle boots for this pair of pointy Emme Parsons shoes. It feels so much more original and exciting than plain black! And if you’re looking to take a walk on the wilder side, Veronica Beard’s calf-hair leopard print pair can turn any outfit into a showstopper. Especially if, like me, you fall into an all-black rut once the weather cools off.
