After a summer of white jeans and linen, I’m ready for something more serious. Slipping into the perfect pair of black trousers and a cozy sweater make you feel like fall is really here. You can dress them up with kitten heels and.a blazer or go more casual with sneakers and a leather bomber.
COS is one of my favorite places to buy trouser. I think their fabrics and silhouette can go toe-to-toe with any of my fancier designer trousers. The only difference is their pants are under $200. I love their Milano straight-leg trousers, which don’t veer into a too-trendy wide leg or a too unflattering skinny leg. If you are into a wider leg, I love their twill pleated pants.
There are other serious contenders in the under $200 category, too. Banana Republic has looked extremely great lately, with a grown-up but still elevated look to even their most basic pieces. Their high-rise pant has the perfect amount of slouch, and their kick flare silhouette has a touch more formality in case you need to dress it up. Sezane is one of my new favorite go-to brands. They mix just the right amount of modernity and femininity, as you can see in their Matheo trousers.
Gwyneth Paltrow recently relaunched her beloved G. Label line as Gwyn. It feels sleeker and more editorial, like a Toteme or a Khaite, but still incredibly wearable. These are not clothes you need to save for a special occasion. Their Shea trouser is a stretch-wool blend that’s comfortable without clinging, and has a flattering subtle kick flare leg that looks good with everything your favorite boots as they would loafers. Veronica Beard’s black trouser is also more of an investment, but I love how sleek the lines of it are.
