Every season, my favorite outfit changes. Right now I’m all about navy. It’s preppy, it’s polished, and it’s way more forgiving than black. And I keep the mood going with a great pair of jeans, which always make me feel my best. Shop our fall uniform edit below.
The blazer is the real star of this outfit The military-inspired navy jacket with gold buttons has really great lines. The sharp shoulders, the swoop of the waist, the angled pockets! I love that it’s more fitted, so you can play with more proportions in the bottom half of the outfit. This Mango blazer is a more minimal, 90s inspired take on the fitted blazer at a fraction of the price. And of course, there’s always the Veronica Beard dickey blazer to fake the layered look.
Layering is the most important element for an all-day outfit. You’ll be prepared for late afternoon sunshine or the chilly blast of the air conditioning unit either way! That means making sure you have a great crisp t-shirt you can strip down to, and a cozy cashmere sweater like this Quince crewneck or J.Crew’s classic-fit crewneck.
I love a rich, dark wash on a jean. It instantly feels more polished and formal, especially in a more rigid silhouette like these J.Crew trouser jeans. Mother’s The Hustler jean has a little more 70s flare. The more fitted top half feels very va-va-voom. One way to update this look if you want it to feel a little trendier? Go big, baby! I’m talking about your jeans. A slouchy, low-slung option like this Madewell pair feels very of the moment.
A couple finishing touches: a black pointed-toe ankle boot like this Michael Kors pair, this Veronica Beard pair, or the funky heel on this Steve Madden pair. Throw on a chic pair of cat-eye sunglasses and you’re good to go!
