Janet Gunn (@thegratefulgardenia) and Melissa Meyers (@theglowgirl) are two fellow age-defying women with seriously great style. I’m also lucky to call them friends, so we got together to do a little photoshoot inspired by our favorite going out trends. Janet, Melissa, and I sat down to talk about how we’re dressing as we re-emerge into the world, from slipping back into heels to trusty white jeans. It’s time to go out again!
Special Tops
This is my number one style move right now! A top with some kind of extra design element, maybe frills or ruffles or a great statement sleeve, is an easy way to feel dressed up without feeling too out of my comfort zone. Mango’s t-shirt with puffed sleeves looks best with your favorite pair of jeans. Vince Camuto’s pink blouse in a fun print will add a pop of color. The high, ruffled neckline with a soft floral print combination feels retro and romantic.
White Jeans
New season, new pair of white jeans! Frame Denim’s high-waisted, high-drama flare jean is perfect for a night out. MOTHER Jeans boot-cut jeans are an easy way to show up your cute summer sandals. J.Crew’s white linen pants aren’t technically jeans, but they’re the perfect pant for anyone who thinks denim is a little heavy.
Small Bags
I’m stepping up from my trusty belt bag to something with straps. A small bag feels a little impractical and a lot of fun, which is why it’s so perfect for using on a night out! I love Tory Burch’s little Lee Radziwill bag in lilac, Wandler’s trendy Hortensia bag in a creamy white, and Anthropologie’s blue and white toile handbag.
Blazers
Usually when it comes to layering, I reach for a sweater, but a blazer is a great way to add an instant dose of polish. J.Crew’s blazer in a summer-weight linen has a lot working for it, but my favorite is the double-breasted buttons for a nautical vibe. Rag & Bone’s linen blazer is less structured but just as chic.
Low Heels
Yes, it’s time to get into heels again, but I’m sticking to lower block heels that give me style and comfort. Like these Cult Gaia mules with sculptural elements like bubble heels, these Marc Fisher shoes with a fun braided element, or these petal pink, super strappy shoes from J.Crew. When in doubt, you can’t go wrong with a nude-colored shoe.
