There’s a craze going around on TikTok where two women dress up in identical outfits and ask strangers to guess which one is more expensive. I love a high/low moment, and couldn’t resist putting my own spin on the challenge. So before you scroll down, can you guess which outfit is more expensive? Either way, the all white outfit is a winner.
I think the pictures speak for itself, but this was a great reminder for me that expensive does not always equal better! The photo on the left is the more expensive version, and the right is a more affordable one. Let’s break the outfit down into parts. The formula here is white jeans + white cotton sweater + tan sandals. Layer on some gold jewelry and a classic pair of shades, and you’re ready to go.
For the white jeans, I rely on time-tested brands. Paige denim can be a little pricey, but they’re high quality and I love the pocket detail on this Leenah pair. On the more wallet-friendly side of things, I’ve been loving Gap’s new denim. The brand feels relevant and exciting again in a way that it hasn’t since the 90s. These High Rise 70s flare pair are a perfect example. But H&M has a flared pair too and even Old Navy is looking pretty good these days!
Jenni Kayne has become a beloved favorite for her California cool, perfectly illustrated by this creamy white Cotton Fisherman Sweater. The relaxed fit and subtle texture make it a truly special sweater, worth every penny. Quince’s cotton fisherman sweater has the same relaxed fit and the ribbed texture at a fraction of the price!
Tan Hermes sandals are one of the most practical splurges. During the summer, you can really wear them every single day. The cost per wear can get down to pennies practically! But you can also get a very similar look at under $200 dollars over at Tuckernuck. Foundrae necklaces are very, very beautiful – and very expensive. Swap out the eye-popping sum for a deeply reasonable Amazon piece at around $30 dollars! And don’t forget sunglasses, too.
