The most fun I have dressing up all year is the holiday season. It’s a great excuse to wear things you normally wouldn’t wear, to play with textures, or to go full maximalist. From feathers to velvet to sparkles, we picked our favorite pieces that pair perfectly with party season.
Let’s start with the big ticket items: sequins, sparkle, and shine. When I’m styling sparkles, I tend to go for one big statement piece, like this Grinch green fringed midi skirt, this burgundy Mint Velvet pencil skirt, or this long chocolate brown Zara skirt. You just throw on your crispest, most exquisitely tailored white button down, throw on a pair of pumps, and you’re ready to go! You can bring the holiday spirit with you into dreary January and February with this stunning Simkhai wool coat, embellished with crystals that take the brooch trend to the next level.
To me, the holidays are all about texture. Sometimes, that means sparkle, but you can always go for something more subtle. I love the elegant formality of taffeta, which feels perfectly retro. J.Crew’s midi ball skirt in a festive red would look fantastic with a boatneck top and your most fabulous pair of earrings.
If sparkles aren’t really your thing, I love the richness of velvet. It shines so beautifully in dim lighting and feels incredibly lush. Mint Velvet’s puff sleeved bow blouse (in pink or black), Zara’s kimono-inspired gold velvet blazer, or Zara’s decadent black sequined robe all pair perfectly with a pair of black pants you probably already have in your closet.
This year, I’ve fallen in love with lace again. There’s something severe and beautiful about this high-necked, long-sleeved A.L.C shirt or this creamy white Mint Velvet top that will make you stand out in a crown of metallics.
