They used to call it the Canadian Tuxedo, but double denim is getting an upgrade this fall. Less Robert Redford on a ranch, and more street style outside of Fashion Week. Sleek lines, dramatic silhouettes, and true blue washes update the look for 2025. Shop the edit now.
I’m very, very into a super dark wash denim for fall. It instantly elevates the jean into something more formal, almost like a trouser. There’s also something equally fresh and retro about it, a perfect match of the 70s and the 2020s. Banana Republic’s Icon wide leg jean is my favorite example, but this Aritzia pair and this Citizens of Humanity pair are two slightly more casual options.
When you throw on a dark-wash top to match, it gives the vibe off a suit. Especially when you put on a more special denim top, like this sleek shaped shirt from Levi’s. The cinched waist and corset-like shaping give it a designer level look for under $100. For a more romantic option you also have this cute Steve Madden number tied with a bow.
A lighter wash is a great way to transition into fall, especially if you live in a city like LA where it’s still 90 degrees. J.Crew’s slouchy jean is relaxed but not sloppy, and looks especially cool with a heeled sandal or ankle boots when the weather turns.
Or, if you want to break up a bit of the denim block, you can always throw on a trusty white t-shirt as a bottom layer and reach for a jean jacket. It’s like a denim sandwich! The shape and silhouette of this swingy THE GREAT jacket is, like the name says, truly great. Or this perfectly oversized dark wash Zara jacket with some interesting contrast stitching.
