Navy can be every bit as serious, classic, and versatile as black. Bonus? I think it’s actually more flattering! It’s a little bit softer, a little less harsh. It’s also the perfect bridge between summer days and cool air. And yes, you can wear it with black. Below, our favorite navy pieces for our moldboard.
There a couple key navy pieces in my wardrobe, starting with trousers. I’m not talking about denim here. Banana Republic’s pants have been knocking it out of the park lately, like these straight leg wool pants or this super wide-leg, pleated pair. Nili Lotan’s boy pant is cut straight and close, but still flattering thanks to the length.
I love anything that feels slightly unexpected. In the world of sweaters, that rarely happens. So when I see something like this Alex Mill rollneck sweater it stops me in my tracks. It’s a riff on the classic J.Crew rollneck, but the buttons give it a Ditto for the masterful mix of contrasts in this J.Crew boucle bomber jacket.
In fact, I’ve got jackets on the brain. Whether it’s a sharp-shouldered boucle blazer from Veronica Beard or an oversized all-American jean jacket from Gap, they’ll add a perfect finishing touch to any fall outfit. But what do you wear underneath your new jacket? There are some seriously pretty blouses out there right now, like this short-sleeved ribbed resort shirt from Banana Republic, a short-sleeved striped sweater top from Mango, or this magnificent pleated Veronica Beard blouse.
Take a page out of Elvis’s book and throw on some blue suede shoes, like these from J.McLaughlin. I also love the idea of wearing these blue croc-embossed loafers for throwing on with my favorite black jeans.
