Navy is really the perfect color for the end of summer. It’s softer than black, it’s easier to style than brown, and it goes with everything. From crisp poplin shirts to cardigans you can layer, these pieces will take you from the dog days of summer to the first fall days with style. Shop our navy fall edit below.
Jeans, especially when they’re a dark wash without any of the weathering, can feel like a trouser. It feels better than reaching for a pair of more formal pants. This pair of Mango jeans look way more expensive than their $70 price tag. Look at the wide leg, the drop crotch, or the seam! They’re rich!! Or you could grab the other unsung hero of the transitional season: the chino! I love this J.Crew kick flare pant, which feels like a fresher version of the ponte pant that was everywhere last year.
I am dreaming of sweaters already, but in LA I won’t be able to get out my cashmere until late October. Unless it’s this barely-there featherweight cardigan from J.Crew, which is the perfect layer over a t-shirt when the sun goes down. I also love this silk cashmere one, a slinkier option. If you’re looking for something heavier, chunky cotton will do the trick. Like this Brochu Walker popover with a more open knit and gorgeous collar.
Let’s talk tops. Swapping out a slightly more formal top instead of my usual t-shirt always takes an outfit to the next level. Look for pieces with one special element so things don’t feel too fancy. Like this Banana Republic sweater polo, this poplin popover with a sporty zip detail, or Brochu Walker’s statement sleeve shirt.
