Plaid Never Gets Old

Plaid and checks are everywhere from runways to fast fashion to Instagram.
by In The Groove August 6, 2018
Plaid Never Gets Old

Can you wrap your cottonwool around this: all tartans are plaid but not all plaids are tartans? It would take way to long to explain the differences, require the services of a “textillian” and for our purposes, does it really matter? Plaid is the bomb-diddy of patterns for fall, and mixing patterns is more acceptable than ever. A stripe and a plaid are easy to mix and different sizes of patterns work well, as long as the colors work together.  Party on the bottom and business on the top or vice-versa. Mixing patterns is a great way to express your inner fashion devils. Go ahead and create some havoc– these days the fashion police are too busy with Melania to catch us. Some shining examples follow.

Mango Check Structured Blazer, $119.99

The kind of coat that makes you look effortlessly chic, even if you’re in a ratty t-shirt and leggings and at the grocery store.

Paper London Checked Wide Leg Pants, $320

Feminine but still fresh, this high-waisted pair of pants would be great with a tucked in white t-shirt and sneakers or a dramatic blouse and boots.

ASTR The Label ‘Emerson Blazer’, $168

The menswear-inspired trend isn’t going anywhere soon – so make it your own with this polished blazer. The matching belt cinches your waist is a plus too.

McQ Alexander McQueen Oversized Sweater, $465

Sometimes, you just want to throw on a big sweater and be cozy. Why not do it in high fashion, holiday friendly way?

Tibi Evin Boots, $750

One of the It Boots this season, this midi boot from Tibi is comfortable, chic, and surprisingly versatile. It works with skinny jeans, skirts, and pretty much any dress length.

Zara Pleated Plaid Skirt, $69.99

Wear it with a t-shirt right now when it’s still nice enough. Later, pair with a great boot and sweater.

Burberry Checked Poplin Shirt, $420

A classic shirt more relevant than ever thanks to Riccardo Tisci’s new tenure as Creative Director.

Zara Turned-Up Hem Plaid Pants, $69.90

Suits are everywhere this season, and plaid suits specifically. We love this slouchy set that stays polished thanks to the cuffed pant.

Acne Studios Checked Coat, $1150

An absolute dream of a coat. The silhouette is spectacular and we die for the sharp lapels. Buy it and wear it because I can’t in Los Angeles.

Stelen Eisa Blazer, $80

Part coat, part blazer, all the way perfect for fall.

Mijeong Park Wool Coat, $420

A beautiful oversized coat with a slightly retro appeal, perfect for people who are getting bored of their classic trench.
