While I have summer on the brain, we have to get through a bit of gloomy weather in LA before I can leave the house without a jacket. For spring, I’m looking at cropped, swingy jackets I can throw on and go, like a sleek trench or sporty anorak. Shop our favorites below.
After a winter of puffer jackets and long wool overcoats, a light jacket feels like a miracle. The key to a truly great and versatile one is the shape. I’ve found a cropped, boxier jacket provides the right amount of weight but also adds interest to the outfit. Aqua’s cropped trench is a perfect example, much like the one in the header image. On a slightly more elevated note, Theory’s cotton cropped jacket is super sleek. I love the double collar detail.
The barn jacket was everywhere last fall, but they work just as well in the spring. J.Crew’s version is a bit breezier than the fall iterations, like this buttery khaki cotton jacket with a corduroy collar, or this white twill version. I love both of the silhouettes and the fun pocket placement.
Another angle on the spring jacket? A sportier, sleeker take.Take Alo Yoga’s pullover in a fresh white, which can be worn so many more ways than after a workout class. The sporty, casual nature of the jacket means it’s perfect for playing up contrast! I love the idea of it with a slouchy trouser, or even with a feminine midi skirt. This Athleta bomber, this J.Crew flight jacket, or this Athleta Everywhere jacket all fulfill the same role in your closet.
Or, you could go with something a little more buttoned up. COS does a great job of making very clean, structured jackets like this navy trapeze jacket or this longer waxed car coat. Their clothes always make me feel like the coolest version of myself.
