Listen, we’ve all been in our homes a lot. And, no matter how much you love it or how great your backyard is, chances are you’re getting a little sick of it. As summer rolls in and we say goodbye to spring (which we also spent inside, in our homes), it’s time to switch out home decor with it. After all, you switch out your closet, right?
Out with velvets and dark colors, in with light blues and an endless supply of rattan, cane, and bamboo accents. For me, one of the consistent creative outlets I have is setting the table. It means something a little different now than it did three months ago, but I still look forward to it. This bamboo Juliska silverware makes me happy every time I look at it, and it goes with everything. Throw in a rattan charger, pretty blue and white napkins, and a linen placemat for a beautiful mixture of colors and textures that scream summer. Don’t forget a vase, like this Tory Burch spongeware pitcher, for all those fresh flowers you have in your yard. Perhaps a seagrass-wrapped pitcher and matching glass for whatever you’re drinking that day.
Maybe you’re feeling a little more maximalist than usual. Don’t worry, we have some things for you too. How about Mercedes Salazar’s absolutely fabulous raffia candelabra, embellished with coral fishes? With equally dramatic of twisted pastel tapers? Fferrone’s gorgeous glasses is a cult-favorite of Kelly Wearstler, and drinking out of them are so much fun you won’t even care that you’re still making the drinks yourself. Luke Edward Hall, a young British designer who’s having a bit of a moment, did a whimsical collection of dishes with Richard Genori. This serving platter, with its Greek motifs and dolphin-riding royalty, is the perfect plate for your seafood this summer.
