Yes, summer means al fresco dining and dinner parties, lazy afternoons by the water, and sunny mornings on the golf course. You know what all of those things have in common? Sun! It’s important to protect your face and skin, even if you’re religious about slathering on sunscreen. I put together an edit of my favorite summer hats, from big straw showstoppers to preppy bucket hats for the country club. So you can look good and protect your gorgeous face.
A big, floppy straw hat is a famously fabulous summer accessory. It’s Old Hollywood and J.Lo, which is how you know it’s truly timeless. Eric Javits’ straw hat is a perfect example. It’s straw, it’s big, and it’s completely packable. That means you can squish it into your suitcase without worrying about ruining the shape. Free People also has a great packable option with an even bigger brim, and if you want to take a pattern with you, I love this striped canvas one.
This Goorin Bros. woven fedora is a slightly more streamlined option, as is this white, wide-brim Panama hat. In fact, hats can be downright fancy. This raffia hat with a black ribbon looks like something straight out of an Audrey Hepburn movie. This black floppy hat is more Sophia Loren than Audrey Hepburn, but it’s still totally glam.
Color and pattern are huge this year, and you can go for a slightly more subtle option with this preppy tan and beige gingham bucket hat. Feeling extra colorful? Frances Valentine’s technicolor floral hat is like wearable art. Have your own Pretty Woman moment in a white and tan polka dotted bucket hat. And, if you feel like splurging on yourself, you can’t go wrong with a Burberry bucket hat. It’ll work on the beach, it’ll work on the green, and it’ll work while you’re sightseeing.
