You can find me in a drugstore aisle a few times a week, which is exactly the number of times you can find me at the gym, but long aisles and the squat value of getting down to that bottom shelf make the drugstore experience a little athletic and if I stay long enough about equal to 30 minutes on the elliptical. Right?
I have a long history with loving cosmetics that began with being sent home from kindergarten in full drag. The Avon lady’s samples, Yardley Slicker and Bonne Bell duped my mother into believing it was okay to encourage an eight year olds obsession, and then came Mary Quant. Wow! I was off to the races and down to the corner Pharmacy every chance I got. Nothing has changed –much.
All grown up, with ostensibly more resources than babysitting money affords, I still enjoy the drugstore experience, and now with several professional –grade brands on the shelves it is impossible for me to resist the lure of the drugstore fluorescents. I have loved watching the drugstore evolve. Is there any better place to meander? Any better way to get real beauty bang for your twenty bucks? Any finer place to explore the person you are about to become right after you purchase the new eyeliner that is going to change your life? No one bothers you; no one to look askance when you ask how much for the 52-dollar tube of lipstick and no one, in fact no one has ever asked me why I am removing caps for the sniff test(does anyone want really want to smell like a Las Vegas carpet freshener). I get to live in my own little drugstore Idaho and it’s positively meditative.
Follow me into my virtual bathroom, and you will be greeted by a mother lode of CVS, Target and Walgreens combined. Even though I also love and use the fancier stuff like Skin Ceuticals , fragrance –free Cerave products from cleansers to Hyaluronic acid and Vitamin C are beloved . My all-time hall of fame drugstore find is from Maybelline and gives my lips ,cheeks and even collar bone a rosy glow to match how I really feel about the drugstore. CVS road trip, anyone?
