One of my goals when quarantine started was to actually sit down and read. Not just buy the books and let them stack up on my bedside table, but take the time every day to read, even if it was just ten minutes. And since books and readers go together hand in hand, I put together some of my favorite pairings for you to shop.
Andre Leon Talley is a trailblazing fashion icon – he’s black, he’s gay, and he’s singular. I love The Chiffon Trenches, which is a dishy, delicious memoir full of his scathing-when-necessary reproach of the fashion industry that loved him and left him. A style icon deserves a style moment, so slip into a pair of statement readers like these half-tortoise, half-black cat-eyes.
There’s been quite a bit of real Royal Drama lately, but none of it is as fun or charming as the novel The Heir Affair, by two of my favorite writers/bloggers. Their story about two married royals facing family drama is positively prescient, but it’s an absolute delight from start to finish. Since the Firm is nothing if not prim and proper, match your reading glasses with this equally intellectual and retro pair.
Fresh off of bingeing Indian Matchmaking on Netflix, I bought Diksha Basu’s Destination Wedding. It’s fun, it’s romantic, and it’s set at a lavish Indian wedding. What more could you ask for out of your escapist literature? If you like Crazy Rich Asians, then you’ll love this one. Pair this book with a brightly colored pair of spectacles, like this cobalt blue pair that would make a beautiful sari shade.
Sometimes, I only have the energy to read a little bit. I don’t want to dive into a heavy novel, or dense non-fiction. I want a little literature morsel. Wow, No Thank You is a collection of essays by Samantha Irby, that is an intimate and absolutely hilarious book about a forty-old-woman who is trying to get more comfortable in her own skin. You will laugh out loud.
