We all know that Father’s Day this year is a little bit different. Between the global pandemic that’s very much still out there and the worldwide protests for racial justice, we’re living in unprecedented times. So please, don’t think of this as our regularly scheduled programming. We simply wanted to take the time to recognize that the fathers in our lives still deserve celebration. Maybe even more so, because it’s weighing heavy on all of our minds that they are plenty of fathers who aren’t here to celebrate this year.
First up: the good stuff. Donations! There are plenty of organizations that do the thankless, everyday work for racial justice. Now is a perfect time to make sure they have the funds they need to continue doing that work. The NAACP Legal Fund and the American Civil Liberties Union are both historic institutions that address civil injustices everywhere. You can also donate to Black Lives Matter or Color of Change. If you’re feeling really generous and you can swing it, think about setting up a small monthly donation.
Now, on to the material gifts. Every dad likes a cool new pair of sneakers, whether he’s in the streets marching or just worried about his street style. These Nike Waffle Racers are perfect for the man in your life who likes a little color. If he’s got more of a classics streak, then you can’t go wrong with crisp new Stan Smiths or these Nike leather, suede, and gum sole shoes.
For the dad who loves his wine cellar and always perfectly grills his steak, go high-tech. The Coravin system lets you pour one glass of wine from a bottle and then save it, which sounds like magic but is just great science. How about a meat thermometer that comes with a phone app for the perfect cook every time? And you can’t forget about the YETI, the cooler to end all coolers.
