The Sneaker Mule Is Spring’s Hottest Shoe

Part sneaker, part mule, all the way chic.
by Susan Feldman February 10, 2026
The Sneaker Mule Is Spring’s Hottest Shoe

What’s a sneaker mule? The ease of a sandal, the sporty appeal of a sneaker, and the preppy appeal of a loafer all in one shoe. The new easy-to-wear instant classic is perfect for slipping on with jeans, sundresses, and trousers. Shop our edit now.

Like with so many trends, I first saw this one come down the runway. Miu Miu, the brainchild of Miuccia Prada, and Dries van Noten, one of my favorite designers, both sent versions down the runway for spring. The Dries van Noten shoe feels a little bit better for everyday life. It reminds me of a really great old retro sneaker from Nike, but just a little bit sleeker. The crispness of black and white makes it feel a lot more transitional. But if you’re looking ahead to spring and summer, I love the perfect preppiness of the all brown suede option.

Luckily, like with most designers trends these days, you can easily get the look for a little less. Vince has a super similar version for half the price, and they’re even in black and white! I love this version of the sneaker mule because it really does feel more like a loafer. They’re so easy to dress up! But if you want something more casual, these Alohas are more sneaker than mule. The thicker gum sole reminds me of the Adidas Sambas craze of last year.

And on the flashier side, you can always count on Golden Goose to make a statement. These calf-hair leopard print slip ons will add instant cool to any outfit, although I’m partial to wearing them with beat up jeans and my favorite white tee.
